Parents Fund

The Parents Fund is an annual fundraising effort that helps Swarthmore bridge the gap between our tuition and endowment revenues and the complete cost of educating our sons and daughters-annually, about $30,000 more than what we pay in tuition, room and board. During the past year, more than 1,100 families affirmed their confidence in Swarthmore by making a gift to the Parents Fund.

Every gift supports the extraordinary educational experience available to all students-and our endorsement of our sons' and daughters' education signals to foundations, Swarthmore alumni, and other parents that Swarthmore deserves their support as well.

The Parents Fund is a collection of hundreds of contributions, ranging from less than $100 to $50,000. Last year, more than 85% of gifts to the Fund were for $250 or less. Together our gifts have a significant impact on the quality of academic, student, and residential life. Participation is the cornerstone of the Parents Fund and the College.

We invite you to support the Parents Fund and thank you for your generosity. Families who contribute $1864 or more are recognized as leadership level donors in The 1864 Society.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Swarthmore College Parents Fund?

A: The Parents Fund, part of Swarthmore's Annual Fund, is an annual fund-raising effort created many years ago to help Swarthmore cover the complete cost of educating our sons and daughters—annually, about $30,000 more than what we pay in tuition, room and board.

Q: How does the Fund work?

A: From September through June, all parents are invited, through mailings from the College and phone calls from current students, to make gifts to the Parents Fund.

Q: Why should I give?

A: Every gift supports the extraordinary educational experience available to all students--and our endorsement of our sons' and daughters' education signals to foundations, Swarthmore alumni, and other parents that Swarthmore deserves their support as well. When the Parents Fund gifts were combined with the strong 56% participation by our alumni in the Alumni Fund, the Annual Fund reached nearly $5 million.
