t the Scott Arboretum, I work as a field work assistant with Uma Nagendra '09. Our responsibilities include maintaining all the display labels on the plants and making sure they are correctly recorded in the Arboretum's database. To me, working for the arboretum is more than just a campus job, but a unique education. By spending Friday afternoons looking for unlabeled trees on campus, I get to pick up the scientific names of plants as well as skills to identify plant species. I am often amazed by the diverse yet well-selected plant collections displayed over the campus. From lilacs to rhododendrons to peonies from my home country, China, these collections offer the Swarthmore community a great opportunity to explore plant diversity and appreciate the beauty of nature."
