Two U.S. Intelligence Experts Speak at Swarthmore College
Two experts on U.S. intelligence and foreign affairs will speak separately at Swarthmore College on Wednesday, March 21. Both events are free and open to the public.
First, Dr. Jennifer E. Sims will discuss the changing intelligence needs and resources of the American government in her lecture, "The U.S. Intelligence System: How It Works," at 4:15 p.m. in the Scheuer Room, Kohlberg Hall. In the same location at 8 p.m., Dr. Robert Gallucci will give a lecture titled "Challenges for U.S. Foreign Policy."
Sims is the coordinator for intelligence resources and planning, a division of the State Department. She has also served as deputy assistant secretary for intelligence policy and coordination and as a staff member on the Senate Select Committee on intelligence. Sims is the author of numerous publications on arms control and intelligence.
Gallucci, dean of Georgetown University's foreign policy school, joined the State Department in 1974. When he left as ambassador-at-large more than 20 years later, his accomplishments included the civilian rebuilding program in Bosnia and the accord over nuclear reactors that averted a confrontation between North Korea and the United States. Gallucci has most recently served as the State Department's special envoy to deal with the threat posed by the proliferation of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction.
Both lectures are sponsored by the Departments of Economics, Public Policy, and Political Science. For more information, please contact the political science department at 610-328-8129.
