1981 Crum Creek Regatta The annual Crum Creek Regatta, first held in 1972, takes place in April on the creek which flows through Swarthmore's campus. For the 500-meter race, student teams make boats, rafts, and pontoons of everything from styrofoam and recycling containers to beer kegs and, in 1998, a twin-size bed frame. Winning teams and their vessels receive prizes, including the Leif Erickson award for first place, the Christopher Columbus award for second place, the Crum Crik Cruiser award for best engineered boat, and the Queen Elizabeth most artistic award. A special Captain's Prize is given for last place. |
