Honoring Legacy of Roz Zander ’64, Director of Sustainability Elizabeth Drake to Deliver McCabe Lecture

Drake is set to deliver the annual McCabe Lecture on “The Climate Crisis and the Power of Possibility” at Garnet Weekend. Zander was scheduled to give this year’s lecture, but passed away on September 5.

Swarthmore Contingent Reflects on U.N. Climate Change Conference

A group of Swarthmore students, staff, and faculty attended the United Nations Foundation Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt in November, witnessing and contributing to international unity against the existential threat of climate change. Over the course of two weeks, four Swarthmore students documented the conference from multiple perspectives, including climate change policy and implementation, biodiversity and habitat protection, power imbalances between large and small nations, and the effect music makes on social movements.

Progress Toward Carbon Neutrality

Swarthmore College will soon begin sitework on a new geoexchange well field on campus, a critical component of an energy plan that will enable the College to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

Swarthmore Adopts Air Travel Carbon Fee in Emissions Reduction Effort

September 9th, 2022

Based on the College’s Carbon Charge Working Group’s recommendation, Swarthmore adopted an Air Travel Carbon Fee on all air travel paid for by the College, effective July 1. The fee is $11 per flight itinerary, meaning that one round-trip ticket will incur a fee of $11.
