Swarthmore Fencing

When the men's and women's fencing teams hosted the Southern Atlantic Conference Championships in February 2009, it was the first time a major intercollegiate fencing event had been held at the College. Thirteen teams from New York to Florida participated, including the College of William and Mary, which faced the Swarthmore men's foil team in the final gold medal-winning match. That round featured the best of nine bouts between three fencers from each school. For Swarthmore, captain Fletcher Coleman '09, James Preimesberger '11, and Doug Woos '11 did the honors, with Doug winning the final bout, shown here (video by Eric Behrens '92). The day before, the women's team won all-around honors.
