Swarthmore College Alumni Gospel Choir

The Alumni Gospel Choir added their voices to the Celebration of Life Honoring Kathryn Morgan, Sara Lawrence Lightfoot Professor Emerita of History, during Black History Month in the Friends Meetings House. Members of the student gospel choir joined them in song. Although it was officially founded in 1986 during Black Alumni Weekend, the Choir's roots go back to the early 1970s. Its members live all over the country, yet travel to Swarthmore to rehearse and perform four times a year. They have produced two CDs, much of it original music, and have presented concerts in a long list of U.S. cities and in the Virgin Islands. Led by Vaneese Thomas '74, who introduces both songs, they are conducted by Freeman Palmer '79.
