First Collection 2015

The Class of 2019 began its Swarthmore journey with First Collection and First Community Gathering, both held last week in the Scott Outdoor Amphitheater.

First Collection is a long-standing tradition that marks the official beginning of every student's experience. At the event, students shared insights, passed the light of their candle to their neighbors, and sang the alma mater.

On the first day of new student orientation, the Class of 2019 reflected on queries on self, community, and transformation at First Community Gathering. New students were welcomed by community leaders and reflected on how engaging in community transforms and deepens one's sense of self.
