An Update on College Finances

Since the 2008-09 academic year the College community has been actively engaged in conversations about the College's budget. College faculty, staff, students, and managers have worked to ensure that the College is responding thoughtfully to the economic challenges it faces in light of the global economic downturn. To date careful spending of departmental budgets; widespread participation in the financial planning process; and faculty, staff, and student acceptance of salary and pay-rate freezes have been crucial elements in the first phase of the College's response.

The College's finances were a significant topic of conversation at the Swarthmore College Board of Managers fall meeting held on campus on September 25 and 26. Following that meeting President Rebecca Chopp shared an update on the College's finances with the campus community.
