As part of Good Sports' 2009 Boston Marathon team, Tobias Resch '11 hopes to raise $3,000 for the organization so that it can provide disadvantaged children with the equipment necessary to participate in sports. As of December, he is a third of the way to his goal and has until April 20, race day, to raise the rest. To follow his progress, check out his blog, where he provides updates on his fundraising and training.

"Without sports, I would have never even heard about Swarthmore," says Resch, a potential honors economics major from Frankfurt, Germany. "I've seen firsthand where sports can get you. To think other kids could have that opportunity but don't because they don't have a basketball or cleats, well, it's personal for me."

In addition to training for the marathon, Resch, a former member of the Garnet men's soccer team, helps coach two local girls soccer teams. But his playing time isn't limited to the field. With support from the Stott program in the Music Department, he is also learning to play the piano.
