'Slow Food on Film,' Selection of Short Films and Documentaries, to Be Shown at Swarthmore

Winners of Cinema Corto in Bra 2006, the international film festival of food short films and documentaries, will be shown at Swarthmore College on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Science Center, Room 101. Admission is free and open to the public.

Films will include:

  •  "The Combustible Chef" about the trials of Andre Boulais
  •  "The True Cost of Food," which calculates the true cost of the food we eat including environmental damage
  • "Nana" about an Italian truffle hunter and his dog
  • "Tartkungen" (King of Pies) about a man who delivers cream pies in inventive ways

These passionate and moving films, often hilarious, sometimes sad, are meditations "on food as an expression of culture or knowledge, as emblematic of social conditions, as inspiring love, passion or obsession. The documentary shorts include international films dedicated to food memory and to the controversies surrounding agriculture and the food industry" (the Chattanoogan.com).
