Helen Plotkin is a scholar of ancient Jewish texts and interpretive traditions. She teaches courses in Hebrew for text study, midrash, and Jewish mysticism. She is also the founder and director of Beit Midrash, Swarthmore's Center for the Study of Classical Jewish Texts. Her research interests include the Bible, midrash, the Talmud, the Zohar, Hebrew language and Aramaic.
She received a B.A. from Swarthmore College and an M.A. from the University of Michigan. She received rabbinic ordination and the Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.
