Orientation Events for Parents & Families - Tuesday, August 25

The following GENERAL schedule is tentative and based on the 2019 orientation schedule. The schedule will be updated in Summer 2020. 
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Arrival and Check-In (Parrish Parlors, Parrish Hall)

Keys can be picked up, and move-in assistance is available at each residence hall from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. After moving into your dorm room, please report to Parrish Parlors to pick up your orientation packet.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Student Disability Services Open House (Parrish West 113)

Student Disability Services staff will introduce students and families to the resources of Student Disability Services.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Reception for First-gen, Low-income Families, Friends and Students (Kohlberg Hall, Scheuer Room)

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Recepción para Estudiantes, Familias y Amigos Latinx / Reception for Latinx Students, Families and Friends (Kohlberg Hall, Scheuer Room)

Una gran oportunidad para conocer y charlar con estudiantes, miembros de la facultad y la administración hispano-parlantes. Please join us for refreshments and meet our Latinx faculty, staff, and students as well as other families of new students.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Meeting for Families of First-Year and Transfer Student Athletes (Matchbox, 3rd floor)

An opportunity to learn about Division III and what the Swarthmore athletics experience might be like. It will also be a chance to ask any Garnet Athletics questions of the Marian Ware Director of Athletics Adam Hertz. This is not an event for students themselves, but instead is an opportunity for parents and guardians to hear about Garnet Athletics.

11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Lunch (Sharples Dining Hall Patio)

Lunch is provided on the patio outside of our Dining Hall for students and family members.

12:00 P.M.–1:15 P.M. Black Cultural Center (BCC) Orientation Lunch (Black Cultural Center)

Join the Director of the Black Cultural Center (BCC), students, faculty and staff for a lunchtime introduction to the BCC and its ongoing initiatives.

1:15 - 2:00 p.m. President's Welcome to Families (LPAC - Lang Performing Arts Center)
President Valerie Smith, Provost and Dean of the Faculty Sarah Willie-LeBreton, and Vice President and Dean of Students Jim Terhune welcome family members to the Swarthmore College Community.

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Supporting Our Students (LPAC - Lang Performing Arts Center)

Meet the Directors and Deans overseeing support services, in a session facilitated by Karen Henry, ’87, Dean of the First Year Class and Director of First-Gen and Low-Income (FLI) Student Initiatives. 

3:00 - 3:45 p.m. Family Reception and Farewells (LPAC Lobby)

The time has come to say goodbye. This event marks the end of the Parent and Family portion of Orientation. Families are invited to meet President Valerie Smith and other members of the administration and faculty at this informal reception.
