Our department hires Swarthmore students to fill positions of Pirate, Clinician, Grader, and Tutor during the Fall and Spring Semesters:

Stat & Math Positions
Math Pirate To work as a Math Pirate, you need to have a good knowledge of Calculus I (to be a Math 15 Pirate), Calculus I and II (to be a Math 25 Pirate), or Calculus & Linear Algebra (to be a Math 27 Pirate).  In addition, you need to be patient, respectful and kind.
Math Clinician To work in the Math Clinic, you need to have a good knowledge of calculus (single and multivariable) as well as linear algebra, discrete math, and other upper-level mathematics courses.  In addition, you need to be patient, respectful and kind.
Stat Clinician To work in the Stat Clinic, you should have done well in Stat 11 or an upper-level statistics course such as Stat 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, or 111.  In addition, you need to be patient, respectful and kind.
Stat/Math grader To work as a Grader, you should have taken the course (or a very similar course) you are wanting to grade for.  In addition, you need to be able to work well on your own while meeting deadlines without anybody reminding you of the deadlines.
Stat/Math Tutor To work as a Tutor, you should have taken the course (or a very similar course) you are wanting to tutor.  In addition, you need to be patient, respectful and kind.

  • If you would like to work in any of these positions during the Fall Semester, applications will be sent out by April 1st and the due date no later than April 8th.  You will be notified by the end of the semester if you have a position for the coming Fall.
  • If you would like to work in any of these positions during the Spring Semester, applications will be sent out by November 1st and the due date no later than November 8th.  You will be notified by the end of the semester if you have a position for the coming Spring.
