Ella Knowles Haskell (1860 - 1911):

Ella Knowles Haskell was the first U.S. woman to run for the office of state attorney-general. She ran for the office in Montana in1892 and lost by a few votes to her Republican rival. Haskell was a lawyer who successfully lobbied for right of women to practice law in Montana. Haskell was also an active suffragist.
