Introduction to the Button/Pin/Ribbon Collection Database

Click here to enter the Button/Pin/Ribbon Collection Database [for instructions on use, see below]

This database was begun ca. 1998 with the purpose of scanning all of the buttons, pins & ribbons that had been donated through the years to the Swarthmore College Peace Collection (SCPC), and creating a bibliographic description record for each image. By putting this database on the Web, both those at Swarthmore College and outside researchers now have the capability of viewing over 1100 items that make up this collection. A related collection of stamps, stickers, seals and envelopes is available to view here. The button/pin/ribbon collection database was moved from FileMaker to ContentDM in October 2003, and is now part of a larger database of images from Swarthmore College, Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College. To find selected images of the buttons, pins and ribbons from the SCPC, click on the entrance point above, and either browse through the records in database number order, or search by entering a keyword into the "Across All Fields" option under "Advanced Search." Keywords include all the information in the various fields in the database, plus subject words [see below for list]. Be aware that using the search option might bring up database records from other collections that are not contained in the button/pin/ribbon collection.

All images are the property of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection and may not be reproduced without permission from the Curator.

Contact the SCPC Curator with any questions or comments.

Note: The transfer of information and records to the ContentDM database is not yet complete as of Oct. 15, 2003, but should be finished in the near future.
