Swarthmore College Peace Collection
Subject File
Ellen Star Brinton, the first Curator (1935-1951) of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection,
established the Subject File as a way to organize miscellaneous material

THERE ARE TWO SUBJECT FILE COLLECTIONS:
Subject File #1 refers to material, ca. 1952-current, collected since Brinton's time as curator,
or material from #2 which has been incorporated into #1

[some items catalogued on Tripod]
Subject File #2 refers to material, ca. 1890-1951, collected by Brinton,
mostly during her trips to Europe in 1938 and 1947-1948

[most items catalogued on Tripod]

Capitalized headings in bold type are categories arranged alphabetically in each subject file collection; these are followed by listings of folder contents. Headings in plain type refer the user to manuscript collections or other subject file categories. The Document Groups (or DGs) are the manuscript collections of organizations and individuals for which the SCPC is the official depository; scattered material that has been collected through the years on various peace groups and individuals is filed into CDGAs (for the United States) or CDGBs (for countries other than the United States). This subject file list does not provide complete cross-references to all possible sources on these topics held by the SCPC. Patrons should also search the on-line catalog Tripod under "Subject Heading" to find many more resources. For more information contact the Curator of the SCPC, Wendy E. Chmielewski (email: wchmiel@swarthmore.edu).
