His researchled to a book <emph render="italic">Soldiers in Revolt</emph> He was ExecutiveDirector of the National Committee for a SANE Nuclear Policy (later calledSANE, Inc. and then SANE/Freeze), from 1977-1987. Cortright, (1946-) an author andanti-militariest, was active in GI organizing at Ft. Hamilton and Ft. Blisswhile serving three years in the army (1968-1971). He was a co-founder of GI'sUnited against the War in Vietnam. From 1977-1987 Cortright was the executivedirector of SANE. After SANE's merger with the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign,he became Co-Director (with Carolyn Cottom) of the merged organizationSANE/FREEZE.</p><p>Cortright has written numerous articles for<emph render="italic">The Nation, Camp World, </emph>and <emphrender="italic">Liberation </emph>among others as well as a book,<emph render="italic">Soldiers in Revolt: The American Military Today</emph>(1975), an historical account of GI resistance to the war in Indochina.Prior to his appointment at SANE, Cortright studied at the Institute for PolicyStudies and later served as a fellow of the Center for National SecuritiesStudies.</p></bioghist><scopecontent><head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Thepapers of David B. Cortright covering the years 1969-74 inclusive, a 1.53 m (5ft) collection, were deposited in SCPC by Mr. Cortright in July 1975. MrCortright's papers consist of drafts and notes for his book,<emph render="italic">Soldiers in Revolt, </emph>and review articles on theAmerican military, as well as newspapers, pamphlets, mailing lists andcalendars of the GI movement.
