James E. Hazard Index

The Records of New York Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

Mr. James E. Hazard, working with the original records at Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College, completed a name index to New York Yearly Meeting in 2005. This index is now on-line, and includes all of the monthly meeting minutes and vital records that were on deposit at Swarthmore to that date. Researchers may choose between a basic search screen, which will sort results by surname, or an advanced search, which offers the ability to search and sort by first and last name, date, and meeting. Every attempt was made to ensure accuracy, and the original spelling of entries was retained; as a result, users are reminded to search under all name variants.

Researchers who might be unfamiliar with Quaker record-keeping before 1900 are encouraged to consult the definitions and other resources available through the Friends Historical Library website in the section on Genealogical Research. As always, we encourage users to confirm entries by consulting the original records, either at Swarthmore or through microfilm deposited at four libraries within the area of New York Yearly Meeting: Rutgers University, New York Public Library, New York State Library in Albany, or SUNY Buffalo.
