Biographical / Historical
The Provost is the chief academic officer of the college and is responsible for the faculty and the curriculum. All academic departments report to the Provost, as do academic support departments including the Library and Information Technology Services, and athletics. Political Science Professor Charles A. Gilbert was appointed the first Provost of Swarthmore College in 1969.
