		<head>BIOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL NOTE</head> 
		<p>J. William (Jerry) Frost, Emeritus Howard M. and Charles F. Jenkins
		  Professor of Quaker History and Research, Swarthmore College, was born in
		  Muncie, Indiana. He earned a BA at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., 1962,
		  did postgraduate work at Yale Divinity School, 1962-63, and was awarded a M.A.
		  (1965) and Ph.D (1968) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jerry was an
		  Instructor and Assistant Professor of History at Vassar College from 1967-1973.
		  </p> 
		<p>He taught in the History and Religion departments of Swarthmore
		  College from 1973 until his retirement in 2001. He also served as the Director
		  of the Friends Historical Library and the Swarthmore College Peace Collection
		  during that period, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Peace and
		  Conflict Studies Concentration at the College.</p> 
		<p> The author of many books and articles and lecturer on Quaker history
		  and peace studies, Jerry Frost's work has profoundly influenced the
		  understanding of Quaker History and the advancement of Peace and Conflict
		  Studies. </p>
