Abstract
The Taylors were Quakers who married into the Knight, Thomson, Clothier, and Shoemaker families of Montgomery County, Pa., and its environs. This collection includes deeds (primarily of the Shoemaker family); copybooks and albums; account books; a family photograph; and miscellaneous clippings.

Herbert Knight Taylor (1879-1957) married Elizabeth E. Thomson (1875-1966) in 1897. Their youngest son, Herbert Knight Taylor (b. 1907) married Edith Clothier Maxwell who was the daughter of John Rogers Maxwell, Jr., and Lydia B. Clothier. Lydia was the daughter of Isaac H. and Mary Clapp Jackson Clothier; Isaac was a long supporter of Swarthmore College, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Managers and President of the Corporation.

Scope and content
This collection includes Montgomery Co., Pa., deeds; household account books (1827-1919); copybooks and commonplace books, and miscellaneous newspaper clippings. There is also a photograph of the Clothier family visiting Egypt.

Organization: Organized into three series. Series 1. Account books and deeds; Series 2. Copybooks and commonplace books; Series 3. Miscellaneous.

Deposit. The collection was given by Robert M. Taylor, a descendent of the Clothier and Taylor families, in 2001.
