History of the Meeting

Friends first came to Shelter Island in the 17th century. After a 200 year hiatus, an indulged meeting was established in 1952 and this became an executive meeting in 1971. Shelter Island divided in the early 1990s, with some members transferring to the newly-formed ELIEM (Eastern Long Island Executive Meeting). Shelter Island Executive Meeting continues principally as a summer worship group.
