History of the Meeting

Scipio Monthly Meeting was established in 1808 under Easton Quarter. After the Separation of 1828 there was another separation in the Orthodox Meeting in 1847, resulting in Orthodox and Wilburite (Conservative) branches. In 1859 another schism occurred in the Wilburite branch, resulting in Otisite and Kingite branches. These branches re-united in 1881. In 1947 the remaining Wilburites in the area were reorganized into Scipio 4-months Meeting, which was laid down in 1954.

Records of the Conservative Wilburite Scipio 4-Months Meeting and its predecessor Scipio Monthly Meeting. Includes the minutes of the Otisites and Kingites. Includes minutes (men's, women's and joint) 1847-1955; vital records 1845-1954; and minutes of the Meeting of Ministers and Elders, 1923-51.

Monthly meeting records normally include minutes of men’s and women’s meetings for business and registers of births, deaths, marriages, removals (transfers), and disownments. In general, non-members are not mentioned in the minutes, even when they attended meeting for worship on a regular basis.
