History of the Meeting

Hartland Monthly Meeting was established in 1821 under Farmington Quarterly Meeting. This meeting at first included the preparative meetings of Elba, Royalton, and Hartland. The Hicksite branch of Hartland Monthly Meeting was laid down by the Quarterly Meeting in 1829. The Orthodox branch further divided in 1855 when the Wilburites (Conservatives) held a separate meeting; many of the Wilburites were reinstated in 1896. After 1905 the meeting was held alternately between Hartland and Gasport. The monthly meeting was eventually held exclusively at Gasport, but it retained the name of Hartland Monthly Meeting.
