Wed. Jan. 7, 1885 Cathie commenced 2nd term at J.  Peirces’.

Thursday, Jan. 8, 1885: Samuel Lloyd & Mahlon Stubbs from Kansas at Mo.  Mtg.  Having been about here 3 weeks.

Monday, Jan. 12, 1885: Finished Extracts for Mem.  Of T.  Coan for Review.     Cathie commenced second term at Wm.  L.  Clark’s (corrected)

Sunday, Jan. 18, 1885: Ellwood Comfort and his daughter Sarah here to dinner.

Mon.  Jan.  19, 1885 James went to Wright’s Station.

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1885:  Jas. returned from Wright’s

 

Sun. Jan. 25, 1885 Katie Webb came here to stay a week.

Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1885:   H.E.B.  Took dinner at Amanda Taylor's, with F. A. Baright, Eloise Dawson & her sister Stevens.

Thursday, Jan. 29, 1885: I attended Mtg. of ExCom.  Of C.  L.  S.  C.  At Methodist Church Parlors, San Jose, in the Evening.

Friday, Jan. 30, 1885: Cathie took tea at Amanda Taylor’s with other young women.

Sat. Jan. 31, 1885 Katie Webb returned home.

Wed., Feb. 4, 1885:   Prof. H.  B.  Norton & wife took tea & spent the Evening here.

 

Fri.  Feb.  6, 1885 Jessie Norton & Mabel Field came & staid all night.  Carrie Brown, Blanche & Lottie Mabury here in the Evening.

Saturday, Feb. 7, 1885: H.  & C.  & I took tea at Lina Casterman’s (?) with Prof.  Norton & wife & sister Mary Norton.

Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1885: Rufus P. King (Baltimore Yearly Meeting Quaker who "saved" N. Carolina Quakers from extinction after the American Civil War)  & Alpheus W.  White came here.  (The latter, son of John White of Providence Mtg.  Red Cross P.O., Randolph Co., N.  C.)

Thurs., Feb.  12, 1885 Rufus P.  King & A.W.  White at Mo.  Mtg.  In the Evening a large company filled our Library to hear R.  P.  King’s Experiences in the War etc...

Friday, Feb. 13, 1885: Rufus P.  King went to Oakland with Geo.  N.  Jones.

Saturday, Feb. 14, 1885: Alpheus W.  White went to San Francisco to take Steamer with R.P.K.  For Sydney, Australia.

Sunday, Feb. 15, 1885 Read at the Evening gathering at G.  N.  Jones from “The Friend in his Family” the account (or part of it) of Edward Burrough.

Sat.  Feb.  21, 1885 Samuel Haines of Phili here to tea.

Sunday, Feb. 22, 1885: At the Evening Social Mtg. at G.  N.  Jones’s I read account of James Parnell from “The Friend in his Family”

Monday, Feb. 23, 1885: Toney commenced plowing Orchards.

Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1885:  Capt.  Murray & wife called here.

Thursday, Feb. 26, 1885:  Toney finished plowing for James & us.

 

Sunday, Mar. 1, 1885:  Geo. & Lily Cloud and Samuel Haines here to dinner.  Ellwood Comfort to tea.  At Evening Social Mtg.  At G. N .Jones’s I read acct. of Isaac & Mary Pennington.

Thurs.  Mar.  5, 1885  Benjamin & Mahalath Jones here to dinner, and Jas. & Roanna B.(ean).

Friday, Mar. 6, 1885:    H.  & I took dinner at 5 p.m. at Hiram Mabury’s.

Sunday. Mar. 8, 1885      At Evening Mtg.  I finished acct.  Of Isaac & Mary Pennington from “Annals of Early Friends”.

Monday, Mar. 9, 1885:   H>E.B.  Started for Iowa, in company with Frances Baright and Phebe Canney.

Tuesday, Mar. 10, 1885:  Thos. Freeman & c Sprayed our orchards.

Tues. Mar. 17, 1885 Jas.  B.  & I bought lumber for Meeting house.

Thursday, Mar. 19, 1885:  Carpenters began work on the Mtg.  House ____                                         _            _Johnson and Melville Ward.

Fri. Mar. 20, 1885  The Mtg. house frame was raised.

Friday, April 3, 1885  The Meeting house was plastered first coat by S.  L.  Weaver, 333 No.  1St.  St., San Jose.

Tues., April 7, 1885 Commenced taking milk of       Leonard 1 qt per day-

Mon.  April 13, 1885 Rec’d. Box of Books from Providence.  See Memorandum.

Tuesday, April 14, 1885:  Mother, C.  & I called at the Mabury’s

Friday, April 24, 1885:  Mother went to town to make calls with Geo.  & Mrs. W.B.  Jones.  She & I took tea at Geo.  Jones’s.

Sat., April 25, 1885   Finished the Mtg. House.

Cathie went to Mt.  Hamilton with a party from W.  S.  (?) Clark’s.

Sunday, April 26, 1885  First Meeting in the new Meeting house.

Tues.  April 28, 1885 Caroline A.  Jacobs staid here, from Oakland.  Formerly Chautauqua Lake Shore, N.Y.

Wednesday, April 29, 1885:.  Dr.  Stansbury’s sister, a Cousin of Hannah J.  Bailey, called.

Thursday, April 30, 1885:  Some of our Hay was cut.

 

Fri.  May 1, 1885  The rest of the Hay was cut on our lots.

Saturday, May 2, 1885:  Wm.  H.  Robinson from Maine here to dinner.

Sunday, May 3, 1885:.  W.  B.  Jones commenced a L. D. S. Class at Mtg. House.  Benj. & Mahalath Jones dined with us.   Finished reading thro “The Life of Hannah Stafford Allen”.

Mon.  May 4, 1885 Stopped taking milk of - - - Leonard.

 

Friday, May  8, 1885: Had 2 loads hay put in Barn.

Orchard plowed by - - Phelps of Santa Clara.  l.75.  Began to furnish Jas.  B.  with milk 1 qt daily -

Saturday, May 9, 1885: Finished hauling Hay.

Tuesday, May 12, 1885: Planted Squash Seeds on Jas.  B’s.  Lots.

Wed.  May 13, 1885 Jas.  & I planted Squash Seeds in his Willow Orchard.    Wm Robinson staid here.

Thursday, May 14, 1885: John Scott was at Mo.  Mtg.

Sunday, May 17, 1885: John Scott had a Mtg.  At the Mtg.  House at 3 p.m.  And staid here.  He will be 87 yrs old on the 1st of 6th mo.  57 years a minister.

Fri.  May 22, 1885 Cathies School with Kitty Pierce closed.

Sunday, May 24, 1885:.  Geo. & Priscilla Pitt of Mitsham (?) W’s London, Eng.  On their way from Japan, were at Mtg.  & here to dinner etc. in the afternoon.

Mon.  May 25, 1885 Mother went with Jas.  & R.T.B.  To call on Aunt Susan Price at the Willows.

Tuesday,May 26, 1885: Cathie & I went to - - - Lambert’s Strawberry Ranch & got a few Strawberries    Susan Price & two daughters were at James’s--also E.  Webb & wife.

Wednesday, May 27, 1885:  Had pump repaired with new Cathers (?).

Thurs.  May 28, 1885 Anna & Lula Mayne & May Bland here to tea with Cathie.

Friday, May 29, 1885: Attended Funeral of Iram Hinshaw’s Son.

Lucy Winston came here.  Cathie & I attended Sopholactian Society’s Anniversary in the Evening.

Saturday, May 30, 1885: Albert & Hannah Coffin (ee?) from Ill called with Abbie (?) Tryo.   Lucy Winston & Cathie took tea at G.  N.  Jones’s with Lottie Mabury etc.

 

Monday, June 1, 1885:  Jas. & Roanna & Harry went to Pacific Grove.  

Thursday, June 4, 1885: Cathie & I went after Mtg.  To University Commencement.

Friday, June 5, 1885: Lucy Winston went to G.  N.  Jones to stay.

Sunday. June 7, 1885:  Josiah Haines & wife & Caroline Tolwell from Phila.  1716 Green St.  here in p.m.

Monday, June 8, 1885: James came up from P.  Grove for a few days.

Wednesday, June 10, 1885:  Lottie Mabury commenced Lessons in Logic & Political Economy, here.  J. H.  McCallock, friend of I. A. Will (?) called here.

Fri.  June 12, 1885 Attended close of Cathies School & took Lunch at Wm.  S.  Clark’s with “Mrs.” Miler & daughter & “Mrs.” Duncan & daughter.

 

Sunday, June 14, 1885: Called at Stephen Hobson’s with B.  H.  Jones.   B.H.  & M.  G.  Jones here to tea.

Wednesday, June 17, 1885:  Fanny Barber here.

Saturday, June 20, 1885:   Geo. & W. B.  Jones & Lena Taylor here to tea.

Tuesday, June 23, 1885: The Jones’s & we & S.  & P.  Mendenhall with Lana (?) Taylor, James Wedon (?), Sing & Chas. went to Mineral Spring nr Saratoga to picnic.  Geo. Clossed (?) & wife & Janet Haines   Joined us.

Friday, June 26, 1885   H.E.B. returned from Iowa with C.E. & L.S.B. Cox.

Sat.  June 27, 1885 The lots on Chapman Tract were Sold at Auction.

Sunday, June 28, 1885: Attended Memorial Service at Normal School Hall in memory of Prof.  Henry B.  Norton.

 

Saturday 4 (July 1885) H.E.B.  went to Pacific Grove.

Tuesday, July 7, 1885:  H.E.B.  returned from P.  Grove.

Friday, July 31, 1885  Chas. E. Cox went to Skyland.

 

Monday, Aug. 10, 1885   C. E. Cox returned from Skyland.

Tues. Aug. 11, 1885  A company here in the home of Cathie’s friends on her Birthday.

Thursday 13 (August 1885)  SAN JOSE MO MTG. LAID DOWN.

Fri. Aug. 14, 1885  Cathie Started for Phila, A. Trega (?) & Sculla Bradshaw for Illinois & Mary Buckley (8th & San Fernando St.) for Phila.  L.S.B.Cox went with them to Oakland, where S. (Sarah?)  Winchester joined the travelers’ party.

Saturday, Aug. 15, 1885  H.E.B. & C. E. Cox went to Skyland to Marian Norton’s.   Lydia returned from Oakland.

Mon. Aug. 17, 1885  H.E.B. & C. E. C. returned from Skyland.

Friday, Aug. 21, 1885:  Chas. & Lydia went with G. & W. B. Jones to  ______ Harrison’s nr. Saratoga to make a call.

Monday, Aug. 24, 1885:  L.S.B.C. commenced teaching at Wm. Clark’s.

Friday, Aug. 28, 1885:  C. T. Warner & his son Chet  washed trees with Concentrated Lye.   190 Montgomery St.   4 cans lye in 5 gall. water.

Sunday, Aug. 30, 1885:  Hannah Neall was at Meeting with Mrs. Pierce & “Kittie”    Saml Haines, Hannah Webb & Herman Saxe here to dinner.

 

Mon. Sept. 7, 1885  C. E. Cox commenced teaching at Biship Warrins, at Santa Cruz.

Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1885:  Mother & I went to Pacific Grove.

Thurs.. Sept. 10, 1885  Simon Moore hauled some freight & lumber from Monterey to the Grove for me.

Friday, Sept. 11, 1885:  Belle Morehouse came here.  (lived  in Oakland)

Friday, Sept. 18, 1885:  Belle Morehouse went to Geo. Jones’s.

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1885:  Geo. Cloudd & wife here to dinner.

Monday, Sept. 21, 1885:  Very warm.  Mother & I returned from P. Grove.  Carrie Sanders came by same train.  Jacob Gunter took us to Monterey & Del Monte (Hotel?).

Mon. Sept. 28, 1885  Paul Mabury began to recite lessons here.

 

Friday, Oct.  9, 1885:  Mother went to Edward Webb’s to spend a week.  Walter Mordock from London, Eng., came here, & after tea, went to G. N. Jones’s to board.

Saturday, Oct. 17, 1885:  Edward & Emily Webb brot Mother home & dined here.  Walter with them.

Thurs. Oct. 22, 1885  L.S.B.Cox went to Santa Cruz to Spend a week.

 

Friday, Oct. 30, 1885  L.S.B.C. returned with Chas. from Santa Cruz.

Tues. Dec. 15, 1885  Called with D. T. at M. Mendenhall’s.   We dined at Jas. B’s.  Attended David Tatum’s Lecture on Temperance in the Evening at San Jose.

Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1885:  D. T. returned from The Willows where he staid last night.  (area where Wards and Canneys lived on Minnesota Ave.)  I took tea at  G. N. Js. with D. T.

Thursday, Dec. 17, 1885:  D. Tatum left this morning.

Fri. Dec. 18, 1885  Vacation commenced for Paul Mabury & for L.S.B.C. pupiles.
