another auden anecdote: the growingly notorious w.h. was pacing vigorously in front of his poetry class, lecturing. suddenly he stopped dead in his tracks, and said, "there's eva! eva!" he yelled, rushing to the window. no answer. bewildered, he turned back and sighed, "i guess that wasn't eva. she's my dog."
