Swarthmore students come from rural and urban areas, big schools and small ones, privates, publics and parochials; more than a third identify themselves as students of color, and seven percent are international students.

The Crum Woods, encompassing 220 acres of mostly forested land, contains walking trails that the community uses for recreation and meditation. The woods are an integral part of 35 courses in 12 academic departments.

Swarthmore's 17 residence halls house a diverse mix of students of different class years; 95 percent of students live on campus.

Serving as Writing Associates, Student Academic Mentors, Ninjas (computer science peer tutors), and Wizards (engineering peer tutors) are just some of the ways students support each other and the community.
