Grounds & Horticulture

grounds at work

The Swarthmore Grounds & Horticulture Department maintains the campus athletic fields, roads, and walkways, as well as the gardens and collections that comprise the Scott Arboretum and the College's motor pool. The staff's collective expertise in grounds management, horticulture, agriculture, forestry, and pest management keeps the campus and Arboretum in pristine condition.

The Scott Arboretum is a living memorial to Arthur Hoyt Scott (Swarthmore Class of 1895). Through a bequest from Mr. Scott's family, the Arboretum was formed in 1929. The mission of the Arboretum is to display plants suited for home gardens in this area and to educate the public. Visit the Scott Arboretum site for more information.
