In preparation for fall semester and connecting your computer to
Swarthmore's campus network, Information Technology Services wants to
recommend a few steps that can be taken at home that will ultimately ease
your arrival and registration process.
Read the tips ...
1) Verify that you know your Swarthmore e-mail/network username and
password and that they work.
The easiest way to do this is by logging
into Swatmail: https://swatmail.swarthmore.edu
If you need to change
your password, you can do so from the self-service web page:
https://p-synch.swarthmore.edu/
... or by calling Restech at (610) 957-6222.
2) While you are still at home, run Windows Updates on your PC or Apple
Updates on your Mac.
Swarthmore requires certain critical updates on
both platforms, and bringing your operating system up to date now means
you won't have to when you arrive on campus.
3) Install Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-Aware on your Windows PC.
While not required for network access, ITS recommends both of
these free spyware removal programs. They can both be downloaded from
the http://download.com web page. These are Windows-only programs, they
aren't needed if you are a Mac user.
4) Remember to bring an ethernet cable to campus.
While Swarthmore
provides wireless in the dorms, you will need to plug in to register your
computer and configure it for SwatWireless.
We're looking forward to your arrival on campus in the coming weeks! If
you have any additional questions about your computer or our network,
email us at restech@swarthmore.edu.
