Elizabeth H. Scheuer '75
Scheuer earned a B.A. in Latin and medieval studies from Swarthmore, then an M.A. in medieval Latin and paleography from University College London in 1976 and a J.D. from Columbia University Law School in 1979. She was a law clerk on the SDNY, worked with a small litigation firm, and later was a staff attorney doing pro bono matrimonial law at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services and at the New York City Bar Association. Most recently (2013) she earned another M.A., in History of Decorative Arts and Design from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Parsons/New School University.
Scheuer served on the Alumni Council in the 1990s and joined the Board of Managers in 1998. She is also on the Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion, and is on the Advisory Board of Moment Magazine. She was a founding member, past Chair and 25-year Board member of the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan. She is married to Peter Joseph (Cornell '74); they have four children, including their daughter Eleanor Joseph '07.
