Arts Weekend 2013 - April 12-14, 2013
Thank you for making Arts Weekend 2013 a success!
We were delighted to welcome hundreds of alumni, parents, students, and members of the Swarthmore Community to campus for a three-day festival of dance, visual arts, music, and more—including a concert by Swarthmore's renowned Alumni Gospel Choir and a showcase performance by Kumudini Lakhia and company. Lakhia, a visiting Cornell professor, is a world-renowned pioneer of contemporary Indian dance movements.
We were equally pleased to host a performance by Orchestra 2001, Swarthmore's ensemble-in-resident dedicated to teaching and performing contemporary music. The program included "Night of the Four Moons" by distinguished composer George Crumb, who discussed his work before the concert together with his daughter Ann Crumb, the vocal soloist.
Arts Weekend included a cappella performances by Sixteen Feet, Chaverim, and other student groups, a show-and-tell at the McCabe Library's "rare book petting zoo," three Fetter Chamber Music concerts, art exhibits by students and faculty, poetry and fiction readings, and more. An annual event, Arts Weekend celebrates Swarthmore's talented students in the arts and our accomplished alumni and faculty.
