The Presidential Palace in Hanoi was built by the French for their colonial governor's residence. It is one of many French colonial buildings in the city that are now used by the Vietnamese government. The bright yellow color is seen throughout Viet Nam on government (and many other) buildings, even modern ones that have no French history.
