2017-18 Financial Aid Application Instruction

To be considered for our need-based scholarship support, you and your parents must complete the following items by:

November 15 Fall Early Decision
January 15
Winter Early Decision
February 15
Regular Decision

The financial aid decision will accompany your admission decision if you meet our deadline. 

Note to international students: If you wish to be considered for Swarthmore financial aid at any time during your Swarthmore career, you must complete an aid application before you are admitted to the College.

If your biological parents are not together, whether because they were separated, divorced or were never married, we consider their financial situations separately, and the Noncustodial Parent PROFILE is required of your noncustodial parent.   If either of your biological parent has remarried, your stepparent’s income information is also required.

2017-18 College Board CSS/PROFILE

Online application. An application fee of $25 will apply for PROFILE and $16 for each additional report. Fee waivers cannot be applied.  

The CSS/PROFILE provides more accurate data, a consistent calculation of ability to pay, and speedier access to financial information.

Students who are unable to submit a PROFILE to any college or university, particularly students from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Ghana, should contact the Financial Aid Office for alternatives to submitting and/or paying for the PROFILE:  finaid@swarthmore.edu 

2017-18 College Board CSS/Noncustodial PROFILE 

Online application required only if your biological parents are separated, divorced or were never married. You will find instructions about how to forward this form to your non-custodial parent after you submit your own CSS/PROFILE form on-line. 
Your noncustodial parent is required to submit the documents listed below. These documents may be emailed to our office in PDF format only.  The email subject should be "student's full name-2021"

Please upload the following items only after receiving your financial aid checklist access.  You will receive access within a day or more following your submission of your admission application.  Visit your Swarthmore Admission Applicant Status Page to view your Financial Aid Checklist and to upload the application materials listed below.

Letter from each parent's employer

Documentation of parents' income is required. Please provide us a letter from each parent's employer stating, in English, the parent's gross salary (that is, before any deductions) and the value of benefits, living subsidies, or perquisites for the period January 1 to December 31, 2015.

2015 Attested Parent Income documentation (reported income tax forms, etc.) Provide a photocopy of your parents' most recent foreign income tax return (or its equivalent). If not in English, a translated version is required along with the original copy.
Attested Noncustodial Parent Income documentation  (reported income tax forms, etc.)

Provide a photocopy of your noncustodial parents' most recent foreign income tax return (or its equivalent). If not in English, a translated version is required along with the original copy.

College Board Certification of Finances Form Email clear copy to the Admissions Office as part of your application for admission.  If you are admitted to the College, you may be asked to send an updated version.  It will be used by the College's Director of International Student Services to complete the Form I-20 when applying for your visa.
