Darren Weinhold

Hometown: Lancaster, Pa.

Major: Astrophysics
Possible Career: College professor, science research

Darren was the only freshman at Swarthmore to be placed in an advanced Physics class and earned one of the only research positions given to a freshman. The following summer, Darren stayed at Swarthmore to work with Professor Michael Brown. This enabled him to continue his research in electrical and magnetic fields as well as increase his understanding of plasma physics, which is the focus of Professor Brown's research. He plans to continue his work towards an Astrophysics Special Honors major. This past summer Darren traveled to Munich, Germany to do research on Toroidal Alfven Eigenmodes at the Max Planck Institute. He also took advantage of his time there to travel around Europe. He will spend fall semester in London.

While at Swarthmore, Darren has been active in the Christian Fellowship and plays an important part in leading and organizing events with the group on campus. He also spends time tutoring local high school students and fellows Swarthmore students in physics and mathematics.
