How majoring in math helped me: as Prof. Klotz promised in Math 16 during my first semester at Swat, it sure made that first year of the economics Ph.D. program a lot easier! It also pseudo-qualifies me to teach math economics despite being an (gasp) applied economist. And when forced to do/teach such things, I still take inverses of matrices and do constrained maximization as I learned in Math 16/18 as opposed to the (much less intuitive) ways that are conventional in economics.
