Welcome to the Newby Lab!
Image kindly borrowed from NASA.
The Newby lab focuses on the spectroscopic study of organic molecules of biological or pre-biological importance. This broad catagory is broken into two major projects at this point.
1. Molecules of astronomical importance.
2. Small, natural-product molecules.
In the lab, we use jet-cooling to prepare our molecules in the vibrational ground state. Cold molecules often have simpler and easier to analyze spectra. We use laser induced fluorescence and single vibronic level fluorescence spectroscopy to probe the structure and dynamics of molecules.
Special thanks to Thomas A. Stephenson for letting us use his lab space and equipment while I am here at Swarthmore College.
