Information for Visitors to Friends Historical Library
Friends Historical Library is located in McCabe Library on the Swarthmore College campus and is open to the public. Reference staff is on duty during regular hours and an appointment is not generally necessary.
If this is your first visit to FHL, you will need to fill out a registration form. All visitors with the exception of Swarthmore faculty, staff, and students must provide a picture identification; this is held at the Front Desk with your registration card during the time that you are using the Library collections. Visitors must also sign the guest book and their registration card each day of their visit.
Please do not forget to retrieve your I.D. before you leave!
How to Find the Library
Friends Historical Library is located on the main floor of McCabe Library on the Swarthmore College campus, which is on PA Route 320, eleven miles southwest of Philadelphia. The McCabe Library Building is located at the center of the campus. It is a large, stone building with long, narrow windows and a mansard roof.
Use the Directions to Swarthmore College to find the campus. If you need handicapped parking, turn into campus on College Avenue. There are three handicapped parking spots next to the Library. Otherwise, park by the Visitor's Center at Benjamin West House, just south of College Avenue on Rte 320. The row of spaces with dark red lines nearest to campus is reserved for visitors. McCabe Library on the hill above you. Once in the front door, turn left to enter Friends Historical Library.
