My teaching is focused on courses in General Chemistry (10 and 10H) and Physical Chemistry (44 and 45), along with a senior-level seminar in Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy (105). In addition, I regularly supervise student research in my laboratory (94, 96, or 180).
The research in my laboratory is focused on the photochemistry and photophysics of small molecules in the gas phase. We are particularly interested in the behavior of highly excited molecules (such as NO, OH or the halogens) that are important in the chemistry of the atmosphere. We utilize techniques such as ultraviolet laser photolysis and laser-induced fluorescence to generate and probe the dynamics of such molecules, the goal of understanding the energy transfer processes that accompany collisions in the gas phase.
