Dr. Cheng is a leading queer theologian and ordained minister, as well as being a prominent author, attorney, blogger, seminary professor, and media personality. He has earned a B. A. from Yale, a J. D. from Harvard, and Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary. His current book, From Sin to Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ (2012), is a rethinking of the doctrines of sin and grace for LGBTIQ and progressive Christians. Cheng's forthcoming book, Rainbow Theology: Bridging Race, Sexuality, and Spirit (2013), relates to the intersections of race, religion, and sexuality, as well as how secular cultural theory—e.g., queer of color critique—can inform theology.
