Poster Mini-lesson

Objectives:

  • Students will be able to name some features that make a poster easier and more eye-catching
  • Students will be able to incorporate some of these ideas into their environmental poster.

Materials:

Two pre-made posters: One is sloppily put together, has no title, uses small font size, doesn't have the student's name on it and has no color; The other is better put together with a neater glue finish and has sheets of paper with bigger fonts matted on construction paper.

Procedure:

Put up two pre-made posters of the same topic. Ask students which poster they think is better. Then ask students to elaborate on what makes the poster better or worse. List these suggestions on the blackboard. try to at least get students to mention the idea of font size, neatness, color, layout, titles and including your name.

Then, ask students what would make the "better" poster even better. List these ideas on the board. (Examples may include using more colors, adding a background, etc)

Ask volunteers to tell some ideas that they have for their own environmental posters.

Evaluation:

The extent to which students follow the suggestions brainstormed together. The students were able to get many materials, including posterboard and construction paper from the school.
