Alicia

From the beginning, Alicia has been a top student in the class. Her greatest strength is her motivation and her active participation. She is always participating (asking questions, listening, brainstorming, contributing comments) in a helpful way and on task. With the different group projects (Introduction to Economics definition poster, goods and services collage, wedding budget, and the opportunity cost presentation, internet scavenger hunt), Alicia has taken the initiative and leadership to work in these groups. Whether she is presenting a poster or asking questions during class, Alicia demonstrates excellent speaking abilities, presentation skills, and thoughts and opinions. Particularly with the opportunity cost presentations, Alicia did much of the work which was quite detailed and advanced compared to the other groups. In the Parkway Foundation Project, Alicia was a key member of the group in coming up with idea (the Parkway Lounge & Store), organizing it and in presenting it in an effective way. In addition, she was capable and responsible in answering questions from the class and took feedback very well. She works well with a variety of people and provides a lot of energy and creativity to the groups she works with. Furthermore with her meticulous, detailed homework assignments (in which she does all the extra credit questions), Alicia shows that she is an intelligent, motivated, and diligent student. In the questions she asks and answers in class, she shows she is a creative, critical, and reflective thinker and problem-solver who is not afraid to share or communicate her ideas with others. In her mid-term feedback form, Alicia shows that she is enjoying the class and aware of her capability of achieving at a high level. In the Parkway Foundation Assessment, she is quite confident of her group’s performance and also demonstrates understanding of the concepts at a high level.

In terms of things she could improve, Alicia needs to continue to challenge herself in terms of the level of thinking, leadership, and writing abilities. I want to encourage Alicia to continue to ask questions that are helpful and are higher-level. I want encourage her to ask questions that would challenge her classmates but are 1) less dominating class discussion or in a group 2) facilitating and encouraging her classmates and group members to ask questions or take more responsibility/work harder. Oftentimes, because she picks up concepts quickly and finishes tasks efficiently, she may feel bored or distracted. Hopefully, she can learn to use that time to help others or to challenge herself, rather than letting herself slow down. Finally, Alicia’s weaknesses as a student are demonstrated in her writing abilities. Her paper on the war in Iraq showed great promise in terms of the ideas, opinions, and logic. However, there were some mechanical and grammatical errors (e.g. in terms of sentence structure, transitioning). Once Alicia learns some basic skills and forms of writing college-level papers, I think she will make an excellent writer.
