French 1 - seventh grade students

At the beginning of the semester, I chose to follow the work of three of my seventh grade students as a representative sample of my class. From their performance on the first few assignments, I thought that these three students accurately represented an A student, a B student, and a C student. Interestingly, as the semester went on, I found that these students had their own strengths and weaknesses, and that their performance fluctuated throughout the semester. Click here to view:

French 3 - tenth grade students

During the last four weeks that I taught at Friends Select, I led the French 3 class as they began to read Le Petit Prince by Antoine de St. Exupéry. This was the first time that any of the students had ever read a long narrative in French. As part of their study, each student began to create a portfolio of their writing about the book. This included: chapter summaries written for homework, short free writes in class, lists of creative brainstorming compiled by the whole class, and one quiz. SM - a Caucasian male student who works responsibly and consistently has grades at the top of the class

BN - a Caucasian male student who consistently volunteers and makes efforts in class, but who became very frustrated by not understanding everything he read in Le Petit Prince

HA - a Caucasian female student who previously struggled with grammatical concepts and hesitated to speak in class, but who showed great understanding and enthusiasm when reading Le Petit Prince
