Activities: Dancer, choreographer, and co-coordinator for Terpsichore, an all-inclusive dance performance group.

Teaching Experience:

Student teacher, Friends Select School, Philadelphia . Taught French level 1 in 7th grade and levels 2 and 3 in the high school. Designed curricula to teach grammar, culture, and introductory literary analysis. Topics included : present, imperative, passé composé, and imparfait tenses ; reflexive verbs ; activity, cafe, high school, and travel vocabulary and culture ; and literary analysis using St. Exupéry’s Le Petit Prince. Observed and substitute taught a French 4 literature class. (Jan – Apr 2006)

French camp counselor, Lac du Bois, Concordia Language Villages , Hackensack, MN. For 8 weeks during each of the past 5 summers, supervised, cared for, and taught French to children ages 6-18 in a language immersion summer camp. Resolved conflicts, homesickness, and emotional issues in cabin groups, motivated children to learn and love French, supported newer staff members to understand camp programming and learn teaching strategies. Received 1 week of intensive training in language teaching each summer. (June-Aug 2001-present)

Junior Counselor (2001), Counselor (2002), Counselor and Store Manager (2003-4), Senior Counselor and Environmental Awareness Coordinator (2005). During summer 2006, will work as Credit Teacher, teaching a 4-week class for which students will receive one year of high school French credit.

Tutor for Chester Children’s Choir student. Weekly tutoring/mentoring for fifth-grade girl from Chester, PA, (one of the poorest cities in the country), after her rehearsals on campus with the college choir director. Provided support for reading, spelling, math, and computer literacy skills (Sept 2005- May 2006).

After-school French teacher, Swarthmore Rutledge School , Swarthmore, PA. Planned 10-week curriculum and taught French to 1-4 grade students in an informal language immersion setting. (Oct-Dec 2005)

Classroom Observer and Researcher. Observed and studied eight grade students in the alternative project-based integrative curriculum, the Soundings classroom, at Radnor Middle School and contributed to a study of student motivation. (Oct-Dec 2005)
