The Annual Swarthmore College Alumni Meet The Cross Country Alumni Race has been held at Swarthmore for the past 25 years. Every fall both current students and alumni men and women participate in a 5K course which takes them around campus and through the Crum Meadows of Swarthmore's campus. The oldest Alum to ever return was Frank Fetter, class of 1920. He competed up until 1980 at the age of 80. September 12, 1998 This years Alumni Race was attended by veterans and recent grads. The 5K course which begins on the Swarthmore College soccer fields takes the runners into the Crum Meadow, and back out. The longest hill of the course is well shaded for a significant portion as it leads you out of the Crum, and onto campus. The course runs travels in front of Wharton Dorm and through Parrish beach, then comes down in front of Mertz Dorm. This area is generally flat, and the final hill is the ascent past Sharples on your way back to the soccer fields where the finish line awaits. On the list of Alumni were Alson Schirmer 96', who also participated last year, and Rachel Brakke 97'. The turnout for the men was slightly larger with the youngest of runners being Cameron Warner 97', followed by Jupiter Bridge 94' who was the first alum accross the finish line, Ari Tuckman 92', Larry Ehmer 82', Rich Slattery 80', John Devlin 76', Dave Johnson 73', and Dave Holland 56'. This was the 6th running for Ari Tuckman 92', the 10th for Dave Johnsons 73', the 20th for Larry Ehmer 82', Rich Slattery 80', and John Devlin 76', and the 21st for Dave Holand 56'. The Cross Country Team would like to Thank all the Alumni who came out this year and hope to see them again at next years competition.
