Freshman forward Chris Loeffler scored a game-high 19 points including eight in the final 3:21 but it was not enough as the Garnet lost a heartbreaker at USP 61-59. The Devils jumped out to a 28-12 lead in the first half but the Garnet clawed back into the contest outscoring the Devils 17-11 the remaining 8:30 of the half to go into the locker room trailing 39-27. The Garnet Tide completed the comeback as a Loeffler three-pointer tied the score at 52-52 with 3:21 remaining. USP countered on a Petillo Jones basket in which he was fouled. Jones missed the free throw and the Devils led 54-52 with 2:51 left. Two Loeffler Free throws knotted the contest and USP pulled ahead with two Sean Gorman free throws. A driving bucket by Eran Ganot tied the score at 56 with 1:58 remaining before a Jason Wood three gave USP a 59-56 lead with 1:37 on the clock. Two more Loeffler free throws cut the lead to 59-58 with 1:21 left. The Garnet defense held the Devils and Loeffler was fouled as he drove to the basket. He made the first to tie and with 38 ticks on the clock missed the second. The Garnet defense held and as the rebound from the Devil miss was hacked out garnet arms the ball was recoverd by the Devils with 10 seconds remaining. Jacob Letendre was called for a block as he was run over by Matt Crawford with 5.3 seconds remaining. Crawford converted both free-throws to give USP a 61-59 advantage. A Leoffler three-pointer at the horn fell off the rim. Kyle Lewis added 11 points Zack Ellison had nine and Eran Ganot and Letendre each chipped in with eight points. Josh Loeffler had four points and recorded a career-high 12 rebounds. Swarthmore falls to 2-11 while USP ups its mark to 9-7. The Garnet return to action on Wednesday at Ursinus, tipoff is 8:00 pm.
