Results:

The expression pattern of engrailed was visualized as blue stained regions in the imaginal discs of En-lacZ Drosophila third instar larva (Figure 2B and 3B). Only one wing (Figure 2) and one leg (Figure 3) imaginal disc were retrieved from the wildtype and En-lacZ larvae. Other types of imaginal discs were either destroyed or lost during the dissection procedures. The blue staining which corresponds to the expression pattern of engrailed was observed dominantly in the posterior halves of the wing and leg discs (Figure 2 and 3). No blue stain was observed in the wildtype imaginal discs (Figure 2 and 3).
