Music

I have relatively eclectic tastes in music, ranging from "classical" to jazz to classic rock to grunge. Here are some of my favorites from each.

Classical

Most of my music in this category is symphonic, with an emphasis on late 19th and 20th century music. I particularly like:

  • Gustav Mahler
  • Dimitri Shostakovich
  • Jean Sibelius
  • Igor Stravinsky
  • Allan Pettersson
  • Richard Strauss
  • Arvo Pärt

but I also have works from scores of other composers ranging from Adams to Zemlinsky. On the flip side, I also like original instrument versions of Renaissance and Baroque music.

Jazz

Of all the jazz styles, I probably prefer bebop over the rest, although I still have a bit of everything. I go for:

  • Thelonious Monk
  • Miles Davis (50's)
  • Charlie Parker
  • John Coltrane
  • Weather Report
  • Dave Brubek

among many others.

Rock

I tend to like 70s and 90s rock the most, including (but certainly not limited to):

  • Pink Floyd
  • King Crimson
  • The Who
  • Aerosmith
  • Alice in Chains
  • Soundgarden
  • Pearl Jam
  • Counting Crows
  • R.E.M.
