- Matt Miller ('04) won a Fulbright Scholarship and will be studying in Iceland. Congratulations, Matt!
- Professor Michael Brown, Chris Cothran, and their Swarthmore Spheromak Experiment are part of a new National Science Foundation center for magnetic self organization. See the press release.
- Student prizes, 2003: Matt Landreman ('03) is a finalist for the Apker Prize. Matt Landreman and Mark Romanowski (both '03) shared the department's Elmore Prize. Robin Smith ('03) won the department's special service award this year. Matt Landreman, Robin Smith, and Mark Romanowski (all '03) received honorable mentions in the NSF graduate school scholarship competition. Matt Landreman ('03) won a Rhodes scholarship. Abram Falk ('03) was a finalist in the Rhodes competition. Robin Smith ('03) won a Fulbright Scholarship. She's spending the year in France.
- "I write with the sad news that William C. Elmore, Morris L. Clothier Professor Emeritus of Physics, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the age of 93."
- Prof. Eric Jensen and Rabi Whitaker ('03) have discovered a group of young stars. They presented their results at the recent American Astronomical Society meeting in Seattle.
- Matt Landreman won first prize for a student presentation at the recent APS/DPP meeting.
- Dave Conners ('03) and Kate Penrose ('04) won second prize in the physics and astronomy division for their presentation at the Sigma Xi student research meeting.
