Question & Answer

What was your favorite math experience?
I like algebra because integration is menial and boring.
What do you hope to be doing next year this time?
I hope to have fully integrated into the hobo community and be riding the rails through some Rocky Mountain state, while enjoying some delicious rusty nail soup.
What advice would you give freshman and sophomores considering majoring in mathematics and statistics?
First off, I would not recommend considering yourself a math major before you've taken a theory-based class like linear algebra (at least it was in my case). I think that part of math is very interesting, and it's too bad that many people get turned off of math before they reach that stage. Secondly, I would say that the field is rather diverse, and if you find yourself uninterested in algebra, you still may enjoy combinatorics, number theory, or analysis.
